PRESENTATION STATEMENT TO YEHUDI MENUHIN
BY GARRY DAVIS
KENNEDY CENTER, WASHINGTON, D.C., MARCH 16, 1980
If any proof were required of the essential unity of the human family, music alone
would be sufficient.
Throughout recorded time, music has always been the ultimate distillation of humanity's
wisdom, prophecy and teaching.
The men and women who work, in total commitment, with this universal language, are
surely idealists and-yes-utopians. For, in their lonely agony and joy, they strive to
neutralize the divisive forces forever active in the human drama.
In your devotion, Yehudi Menuhin, to this hallowed and healing art, in your unrelenting
dedication to bestowing the blessing of your genius on your fellow humans, you are a true
peacemaker.
You, with your music, have traveled the globe, mocking the artificial barriers of
nationalism, inspiring all who listen to join with you in the transcendent witness of
world unity.
In the name of the homeless and the oppressed of our world community, I am honored and
pleased to present you with this WORLD DONOR PASSPORT, a document similar to that which
offers the only spark of hope and human dignity to thousands of those who have become
pawns in the foolish and deadly game of absolute national sovereignty.
I offer it in deep appreciation of your active and courageous practice of the ideals of
world citizenship.
